Hariette Surovell received a Combined BA/MA
Degree in Creative Writing from City College of New York, where she studied
with Kurt Vonnegut, Joseph Heller, Francine Du Plessix Gray and James
Toback, and with E.L. Doctorow at Sarah Lawrence College.
She has taught writing and literature courses in five colleges, including
a course she created for U.C. Berkeley, "Literature for Writers".
A professional graphologist, Hariette Surovell's Harper and Row book, "Lovestrokes:
Handwriting Analysis for Love, Sex and Compatibility" is still selling
steadily.
Her first publication, at the age of 16, was the New York Times Op Ed
piece, "Most Girls Just Pray". She has since published articles
and fiction in almost every major national magazine. Surovell has been
an "Exquisite Corpse" contributor since its conception and
resurrection, and the resident film critic for the arts-only magazine "Cover".
After she turned to a life of crime-writing, three of her articles were
optioned to become major motion pictures. Her original treatment, "The
Accountant and the Stripper" is in development to become a "Showtime" movie-of-the-week
starring William H. Macy.
